Scripture reference: James 4:7-10
7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Do you really have faith in God?
“Religion” is one reason faith in God has gone by the wayside. The world believes just being a member of a church guarantees salvation. The world seeks fame and wealth and has broken Jesus’s “love thy neighbor” command. Unfortunately, some Christians have forgotten that command as well.
How many of us have really submitted ourselves to God? Faith in God gives us strength through His gift of the Holy Spirit. God will provide everything we need and will lead us down the right path while Satan will do everything in his power to lead us away from God.
James shares five ways we can overcome Satan:
1. Submit to God (v. 7) – make a commitment to God and stick to it
2. Resist Satan (v. 7) – resist his temptations and enticements
3. Cleanse our hands and purify our heart (v. 8) – be faithful to God and His laws
4. Truly seek God by expressing to Him what we are feeling, even if it’s sorrow (v. 9) – keep our thoughts on God, draw near to Him and He will draw near to us
5. Humble ourselves before the Lord (v. 10) – don’t pray haphazardly but instead be humble in prayer at God’s altar
Remember, God is for you and can stop all evil that comes against you, and He will always love you.
